*Christmas Giveaway
Author: Dia* Or whatever holiday you celebrate–I don’t judge. ;p
I got two finished copies of Bleeding Violet today from my favorite editor Emilia, and I’m feeling this urge to share the love and/or holiday spirit.

Guess which one is mine? Ha! Here’s the cookie on the back:

(By cookie, I mean a teasy little excerpt, not an actual snack treat). And here’s the spine without the jacket:

I know this has crossed the line into dork city, but don’t judge me. I don’t judge you for not celebrating Christmas. :p
Anyway, about the Bleeding Violet *Christmas Giveaway Extravaganza, let’s just keep it simple, shall we? If you comment on this post (just once, please, for the sake of simplicity), consider yourself in it to win it. Don’t do anything stupid, though, like putting your address in the comments. I’ll use some random name thingy to choose a winner, so it’s only the winner’s address I’ll need, which I’ll get through email. And it has to be an interesting comment not something lame like, “I’ve commented”. All lame comments will be automatically disqualified. How do I know if my comment is lame, you ask? You don’t. I’m the sole judge of both “cool” and “lame”. That’s just the way the world works. Sorry. :p
What do you win, you ask? The prize is a signed copy of Bleeding Violet, plus some swaggish type stuff. I have a purple lock box with some stuff in it. Here’s a pic:

What is that stuff, you ask? Some Lipsmackers (I’m a Lipsmacker junkie), purple mini-Sharpies, an iTunes card, a bottle of aubergine nail polish (aubergine is actually a lot darker than that polish is, but whatever), and a silver key. The key is a nod to Bleeding Violet; all the Porterenes carry little silver keys. There are also bookmarks, but not for BV (I might get some made, someday; I’m still relatively young enough to get around to that):

I’m sure none of these authorly folk mind me giving their bookmarks away. And if they do, tuffers (and no, that’s not a typo; it’s a nice way of saying tough sh*t).
So that’s it. If you win, you get all this stuff. I thought about doing the whole first, second, third place rigamarole, but screw that. In my world, it’s all or nuthin’.
The giveaway starts now and ends…I dunno…Christmas Eve. I’ll announce the winner the day after Christmas, and whoever wins will have 24 hours to claim the prize or I will send thugs to your house to thrash you. Hahaha, just kidding. The prize will just go to some other random person. Okay that’s all. Merry *Christmas!

That book looks so sexy compared to the other ones. No joke. The bare thigh on the spine is hot. Just kidding, kind of.
But that’s so exciting! If I were in your shoes, I’d probably end up bringing that book to bed with me tonight. Just saying.

hmm a cool comment you say? How about I share my motto: I will stop procrastinating. Tomorrow.” oh and another good one “All I want in life is a dancing partner.” Edith Beale
Ahh I love quotes. I’m presuming that it’s obvious that I think I’ll love BV so I won’t blather on about that

Oooh! You had me at purple mini sharpies
And of course the signed book, I would love the signed book as well.
December 14th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
The book cover is so pretty. And then you combine it with lipsmackers (which I adore) AND MUSIC? And nail polish of course. And keys are pretty, so long as I don’t put it on my keychain and try to open doors with it. That would be bad. And what’s bad about bookmarks? One will be forever stuck in my Emma book that I CAN’T FINISH or I’ll gauge my eyes out from Emma’s nosiness. I only have two. So more would be very good.
Interesting enough for you?

Why Violet…
By definition
“The mix of RGB colors: (r:238, g:130, b:238)”
“the color of light at the short-wavelength end of the visible spectrum, almost invisible to the eye color”
“The color violet represents the harmony of the universe because it is a combination of red (yang) and blue (yin).”
“Association with luxury”
“Violet symbolizes magic”
Why Violet by life choices.. At least mine so far.
Lusciously gratifying visually and mentally.
Alternative difference to the common way of living to others not so much like you.
Our perfect opposites where the impulsive conquest of red mixes with the soft surrender of blue, creating life’s perfect harmony.
Loosing grip could be produced by bleeding violet state of mind.
I know…sadly i recognize I need all the help I can get…
Thank you Dia

I found your site through goodreads, I can’t wait to read this book!! It sounds amazing! Love your sense of humor! Thanks for entering me in the contest!
December 16th, 2009 at 7:49 am
Glad to see you haven’t lost an humor or snarkiness…I still think you need to write some gross out funny alien/zombie/mutant middle grade novel…
December 16th, 2009 at 7:52 am
I am dying to win this! Bleeding Violet is my choice for Waiting on Wednesday this week. It feels like I’ve been waiting forever for it to come out!
December 16th, 2009 at 9:31 am
Bleeding Violet has been on my **wish list** forever! Why you ask? Well…first of all, lets define violet (the color…not the plant)…
reddish-blue, a color at the opposite end of the visible spectrum from red, an effect of light with a wavelength between 400 and 450 nm.
Everyone knows, reddish-blue is a form of purple…and purple is a power-color (commonly known fact, ha ha)….so of course…that would be my fav!
But seriously, this sounds like such an awesome book, can’t wait to read it…and i will keep wishing that I will have a Bleeding Violet Christmas, with a wavelength of about 425

When I first saw you mentioned the word cookie on twitter I had imagined an actual cookie lol Similar to Cyn Balog’s FAIRY TALE where there’s a fortune cookie in the back cover xD
Here’s a random interesting fact that I found on google: “Colgate faced big obstacle marketing toothpaste in Spanish speaking countries. Colgate translates into the command “go hang yourself.”’
ME WANT TO EAT YOUR COOKIE BOOK

The outside of the book looks pretty and purple. Just how I imagine magic would look like, so if the outside of the book is beautiful, then I imagine that the book itself is amazing.
Plus, the title is just awesome. (I want to read this book so bad!)
December 16th, 2009 at 5:20 pm
Love the key in your lil swag box! That would be an awesome long necklace!
And you are not being a dork with all the pics. If I had a book published I would be carrying a copy with me around constantly showing anyone and everyone who would listen like some kind of evangelist!
Love the purple text on the spine too. Seems like now most books just have a really plain spine, simple type, in silver or gold, that doesn’t really match the book jacket.
December 18th, 2009 at 3:53 pm
Wow, I want to win this sooo bad!! The swag box is so cute =]
I’d actually feel really bad if I did win, though, cuz i reviewed your book for RT magazine and I’m not allowed to say anything yet, but I can say I LOOOOOOVED it!! The issue the review is in will be out soon…but to get a signed REAL copy and the swag…omg…I guest blogged for my mom’s website and BV is on my list of favorite YA books!!
I can’t WAIT for Strange Fruit and I’ll definitely want to review it!!!
December 20th, 2009 at 3:24 pm
I have to just say that your “if I say it’s cool, it’s cool. If I don’t, it’s not” attitude in the most made me smile. The cover of the book is GORGEOUS ,though. I’ve been lusting after it since the first time I saw it – it’s def. one of my all-time faves.

I’m really looking forward to reading Bleeding Violet!! And I just have to say, “aubergine” may be the coolest word ever. Your book is so beautiful and it sounds really interesting
December 22nd, 2009 at 12:08 am
I wonder if it’s too late to enter.
Omigod, I love how the books looks. Perfect, just perfect x3
I WANT IT, I WANT IT NOOOW ;D
December 22nd, 2009 at 1:16 am
Wow, I love the style and lettering on the back of the book. Like the cover, it looks great. Can’t wait to read it.
December 22nd, 2009 at 9:05 am
Wow, that is one perty book! I love the bare spine, the font on it is just so cool. And the cookie. Edible or not, cookies are always awesome. I cannot wait to get my impatient hands on it!
December 22nd, 2009 at 10:48 am
I could use some new Lipsmackers. Oh and the book would be swell, too.
Actually, I would kinda love winning your book.
December 22nd, 2009 at 10:50 am
Wait a minute, those bookmarks look familiar. VERY familiar! Did some of this swag come from my not-so-secret bookmark drawer stash at the library?
Also, these reviews are getting more and more interesting by the day. Just how dark and twisty is this book written by the mystery that is Dia?
December 22nd, 2009 at 11:57 am
YAY. Count me in for this contest please. I love how purple is on some of the greatest fantasy books in 2009 and 2010. Rich, dark purple is just so royal, and soothing to look at, and it makes everything look so much classier. I love your book design.
And yes, purple IS my favourite colour.
December 22nd, 2009 at 5:45 pm
You’re book sounds really interesting and the writing on the spine totally reminds me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the TV series, not the movie), so I’m sold!
Thanks for the contest!

I would love to win this book!

I about dropped my laptop (but saved it, thankfully) when I saw this post!
Bleeding Violet looks gorgeous! I adore the font on the spine, it’s beautiful. It looks like you’re one of those lucky author’s who get a truly magnificent cover/spine to match the words inside…
Lol, I totally thought for a second you meant an actual cookie! But an excerpt is just as delicious, right?
