Bleeding Violet’s Birthday!
Author: DiaIt’s official, folks. Bleeding Violet is finally out and about in the world–the REAL world, not just the world in my head. Talk about surreal.
Anyway, I thought I’d do something nice for my book today, you know, show her how very loved she is. (People keep saying she’s weird and dark and creepy, and I think it’s starting to give her a complex, poor thing.) So I’m going to do a Release Day Giveaway that’s open to everyone from everywhere. Yes, even Philadelphia (joke between me and my football archnemesis Josh Berk).
If you want to enter, all you have to do is leave one comment for my book explaining why being a weirdo isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I’ll pick a winner at random, using the random chooser thingy, but I’ll also pick a personal favorite. The winner gets a signed copy of Bleeding Violet and the personal favorite gets a BV bookmark and a Porterene key (you have to read the book if you don’t know what that is). This giveaway will end next Monday, and on the following Tuesday, I’ll announce the winners.
So that’s it, and I really hope you guys can make my poor little book feel good about herself. Good luck!

“Weirdos” have destinies and interesting adventures. That’s what wish for you, little book–and your author and readers. (Readers! You will have lots of readers!)
January 5th, 2010 at 7:45 am
First of all, CONGRATULATIONS on the BOOK BDAY! *~happy dance in your honor~*
Second, definitely count me in for the giveaway…hmmm, let’s see, why it’s okay to be a weirdo…..well, let’s face it….who really wants to be “normal”? I mean without the quirks and oddities that stand out about each of us, we’d all be the same so I say PFFFFT on being classic case normal and HURRAY for all those celebrating what makes them who they truly are!
January 5th, 2010 at 7:46 am
Being a weirdo is not a bad thing because well, seriously, how crappy and boring and stupid a world would it be if there were no weirdos? For example: I think people who like playing badminton are, well, a little weird, because is there a weirder game than badminton? It uses something called a “shuttlecock” instead of a ball, for crying out loud. And yet, people who play badminton – bizarre though they might be – contribute to the grand tapestry of variety-spiced existence on this mean old world of ours. Vive le difference, I say! Weirdos are good! Yes, a lot of people think I’M a weirdo, that does not bias my opinion at all!

Congratulations on the release of Bleeding Violet! I hope it will get listed as a bestseller! Now, this question isn’t hard for me, since I already am a weirdo. Or more concisely, a nerd. Why being a weirdo isn’t necessarily a bad thing:
1. Teachers like me. Some love me. >:)
2. Friends won’t bother to bother me while I’m reading.
3. I get lucky whenever I wear red (on the inside).
4. I get laughed at sometimes for my stupid construction of words, but it’s a good thing that I can entertain others. It relieves their stress.
5. I have a good internet friend in Hungary whom I’ve never met in person. She wanted to send me a present for my birthday! (It’s on 23rd January)
6. I know more about world history than my friends because I read a lot.
7. I know a little French, Korean and Japanese. It makes me proud to just think of it! XD
8. Perhaps I’m a weirdo, but I really love books, and I really want to read Bleeding Violet, so please pick me! (Even though no.1 never wins)
Thanks and have a GREAT day!

May I quote the illustrious and hilarious Dan Quayle to you please?
“People that are really very weird can get into sensitive positions and have a tremendous impact on history.”

Happy release/birthday! I’m excited for you, and your book.
I’m an aspiring writer of YA, and being weird sort of comes with the job description. One of my favorite quotes: “Writing is a socially acceptable form of schizophrenia.” ~E.L. Doctorow
Weirdness opens the mind to all sorts of possibilities. And normal is just plain boring.
Best of luck with your soon-to-be rockstar status!

Wierdos make the world an interesting place! I am proud to be wierd-I embrace it!
Happy Release Day! Congrats!
January 5th, 2010 at 9:44 am
Being a weirdo isn’t necessarily a bad thing because you know you’ll be the first to try new, untried things that’ll become ‘cool’ sooner or later.
Geek?
Out in 1990.
In in 2010.
January 5th, 2010 at 9:51 am
Without weirdos the world would be a boring place full of Stepford type folks.
January 5th, 2010 at 10:15 am
Being a weirdo is awesome! First off, you’re the first people everyone would think of when they need kooky ideas that are so idealistic and out of the box, they’ll think “Why didn’t I think of that?” Second, you have your own way of thinking! I dunno, I personally could relate cos sometimes i borderline on autistic on my weirdness but it works! I could solve problems better at this rate. Third, I get to see some aspects and things people normally don’t! The list could go on and on [or maybe I'm just describing myself on and on!]
Please do count me in your giveaway! Would deffo love to read your book =)
Congratulations on your book release day!
January 5th, 2010 at 10:25 am
happy book bday! Being a follower is not fun, being yourself is – even if that means being a weirdo, LOL.
January 5th, 2010 at 10:38 am
I mainly came over from you tweet (i’m susiebj) to say congrats! But as for being a weirdo. Well, that’s simple- weirdos are cool, vastly more interesting than the average vanilla of whom we know exactly what they’ll do say and wear before they’ve even done it. The thing is not to be ashamed of being a weirdo- do it with confidence. Be proud. That doesn’t mean you have to be obnoxious or demanding of attention- just be.
January 5th, 2010 at 11:29 am
Happy birthday Hanna!
Weirdos=awesome. They make the most awesome entertainment. Star Wars, GLEE, Heroes (a bunch of weirdos fighting each other~), Ripley’s Believe It Or Not!
Weird facts: The names of Popeye’s four nephews are Pipeye, Peepeye, Pupeye, and Poopeye!
:Most lipstick contains fish scales!
:The sentence “The quick brown fox jumps over a lazy dog.” uses every letter of the alphabet!
:Cat urine glows under a black-light!
:Some ribbon worms will eat themselves if they cant find any food
And think about this way, without weirdos Josh Berk wouldn’t exist
P.S. I’m from Philly so that would be sooooo awkward lol
January 5th, 2010 at 11:46 am
Being weird isn’t bad because, if you are weird then you stand out. You don’t blend in with the crowd. You are unique. Who wants to blend in & be exactly like everyone else?
January 5th, 2010 at 12:05 pm
Happy Book Birthday Dia!! I cant wait to rad Bleeding Violet.
Mhhm…well lets face it..you’re either one of “them” (the “normal” people) or a weirdo. And when I watch the people around me..the people at school or everyone actually…see how they act and the terrible things they can do..see..well everything you see while watching them…I dont wanna be part of that. If that makes me a weirdo…so be it:P
January 5th, 2010 at 12:08 pm
Weird is another word for original…and I don’t even want to think what this world would be if everyone was the same..YUCK. So “live on” weird and creepy little book..and you are welcome at my house anytime
Happy Book Birthday!
January 5th, 2010 at 12:18 pm
happy birthday to Bleeding Violet! my friend and I are dying to get our hands on this book (she’s been checking indigo.ca every day for the past week lol)
weird is a very subjective term, I guess it represents deviation from the ‘majority’, which is essential to the survival of a species
plus, people say creativity is a mental disorder, but I doubt many people find creativity particularly ‘bad’
January 5th, 2010 at 12:26 pm
Being a weirdo is good because everyone needs something that distinguishes them, something they’re passionate about. Others may find it weird, but passion is what drives us forward in life.
January 5th, 2010 at 3:12 pm
Being a weirdo is not necessarily a bad thing because there is strength in numbers. There are really a lot of us weirdos around.
Congratulations on the publication of Bleeding Violet. It sounds really good. I would love to read it and share it with my students.
January 5th, 2010 at 4:39 pm
Being a weirdo isn’t a bad thing because it means that you are different from the rest, that you are special. Why would you want to be the same as everybody else? That would be boring.
January 5th, 2010 at 6:08 pm
A bad thing? Are you kidding? We are unique, original and different
Congrats on your book Bday!!!
January 5th, 2010 at 9:13 pm
Thanks for sticking up for me & Philly, Yan, um, I think? Hahah. Happy book birthday, kid! I’m proud of ya.
January 6th, 2010 at 1:12 am
Yay! Congrats! I’m really excited for you (and for myself too, of course! I can’t wait to read the book!!) Well anyway, weirdos are the people I admire the most simply because they are different, they are unique and they don’t act like what anyone expect them to act, they are unexpected and they manage to surprise you all the time… and being different take a lot of courage and that’s why being a weirdo is not something to be ashamed about. At least they are who they are:)

Cheers to B.V ! This is to the new baby book!!

Weirdo’s Anonymous Awards 2010
Interviewer: “ Hello everybody, here we are interviewing the 2010 pick for W.A.A. 2010 ”
Me: “Hey peeps, what’s up”
Int: “So what is W.A.A.?”
Me: “Not sure really, they just picked me up in the girls restroom…”
Int: “Excuse me?”
Me: “I was singing while peeing… The W.A.A. actual winner thought I was weirder than her”
Int: “Oh… Okay… That sucks”
Me: “I know tell me about it… I feel unprepared…”
Int: “Okay… Let’s see if we can make this work…”
Me: “Whatever, make it quick” I said fixing the rubber flower in my hair.
Int :”Sure… What’s your name then?”
Me: “My actual name?” She nodded “ Carolina Maria Castro Zorrilla, I know … A real tall name for a 5.3 person, but I go by K Fraser now…more fitting.”
Int: “Okay… Umm K…What’s your age?”
Me: “Forever 29, or I’m shutting for that anyways, until people decide I’m to old for it”
Int: “Umm…What’s in your closet?”
Me: “Only black and Grey clothes…Purses and a Cat house… Sometimes I think I should turn my closet into into a library… Better use of space you know… To much room for a cat..”
Int: “Okay…Stupidest thing you’ve done?”
Me: “Holding on to a Car in motion, better than sledding really… you should try it..”
Int: “Something you consider challenging about yourself?”
Me: “Ohh… that’s a hard one…Does it happen to you that you dream in other languages? Because I do… I have no clue what’s going on…It kind of sucks really…”
Int: “Umm Let’s try this again… Challenge”
Me: “Isn’t it obvious?” I said putting my hair behind my ear.
Int: “Not really”
Me: “Having a conversation…with you right now…has to be top of my list…”
Int: “Shoot… Jack!!” She yelled across the stand” Turn the microphone off, let’s find the other chick, this one is completely nuts… I don’t get what the hell she’s talking about…”
January 6th, 2010 at 1:47 pm
Congrats on the book!
Weird is different and different is good.
My little niece always call me weird and I tell her:
You’re the weird one – I’m normal – If you’re normal like me – then all the people out there will be the weirdos to you. So normal people are really weirdos and weirdos are really normal people.
It confuses the heck out of her…but it’s fun and true.
January 6th, 2010 at 4:37 pm
Congrats on the release of Bleeding Violet, It sounds like a great book
) As for being weird I’d say that is definitely a good thing to be – who wants to hear about normal boring people with nothing interesting to say. Its much more fun to be a weird kooky character with a different outlook on life & something other than the norm to say. I’d rather be thought of as weird & original than boring & normal any day of the week!
January 6th, 2010 at 9:04 pm
Yeay for your book’s birthday – it feel great to get a book published (and a little scary too?).
About being weird – being weird just means that you’re different than the norm. The norm is what most people (or books) are. The Norm gets a little boring sometimes, so the weird can be exciting because it’s different and stands out. Not everyone or every book needs to be the same old, same old. so…..Little book let your freak-flag fly, I want to read you so very much!
January 6th, 2010 at 11:10 pm
Being a weirdo you get to be yourself and do your own thing. You don’t have to dress like everyone else and do things that is expected of you by your peers. You can choose to be by yourself and people wont come up to you and bother you. You can also set your own trends and not have to copy others.
January 7th, 2010 at 6:02 pm
Being a little weird is not necessarily a bad thing. If everyone was the same the world would be a boring place. Now being a lot weird and bordering on crazy, that would be terrifying.. Lets just hope there are more little weirds and less alot weirds out there. LOL
January 8th, 2010 at 8:04 am
Weirdos aren’t bad cause they have their own minds. They do what they want to do. And they don’t get caught up in the latest fad or whatever it is that most of their peers are doing. They are their own selves.
January 8th, 2010 at 8:34 am
Congratulations on your book Birthday!!
Wait. Everyone on here thinks they’re weird. Assuming that everyone everywhere thinks they’re weird, doesn’t that make everyone common? I vote for being normal, so I can be the weird one. XD
January 8th, 2010 at 9:06 am
Congartulations! Woo Bleeding Violet! *throws streamers and confetti*
Being weird is COOL–don’t forget it! If we WEREN’T weird, what would be be besides BORING!
Seriously! ;D I mean, there are a lot of weirdo’s out there, and I’m proud to call myself one
January 8th, 2010 at 9:09 am
I don’t see it as weirdos, that’s just what uncool people like to call it. I think people who are not afraid, who want to be original and who don’t pay attention to other people’s opinion are who are considered weirdos. And those who call them that, are stuck to what is expected of them. Weirdos live life more fully because they don’t suffer from normal-society-based fears. Crazy is the new cool!

being a wierdo isn’t bad cause you’re differeny from everybody. Also, you could do what ever you want and people wouldn’t care. for you were ‘normal’ you’ll have to kept your rep. being a wierdo makes you stick out and have freedom. what’s wrong about that? = ]
January 8th, 2010 at 4:35 pm
If there were no weirdos in the world, I’d have no friends and no one to talk to
P.S. the rainbow theme here is killing me…
January 8th, 2010 at 5:51 pm
To quote the band !!!, “All my heroes are weirdos.”

I think this has been said already, but being a weirdo just means you’re not boring, like all the other normal people! Also, it means that you get a great store of memories to look back on and think about how much better you have it now, once you find people who are similarly weird. ^_^
January 8th, 2010 at 7:23 pm
Weird can be good. I don’t know why weird has to be bad. Its just different, and lets face no one wants to be the same as everyone else. And if you have lots of money, then you are not weird, just eccentric.
Good luck with the book!!
January 9th, 2010 at 9:46 am
Being a werido isn’t a bad thing because you’re always in books! People love to write about weirdos, we fascinate them
Happy belated book birthday! I hope Bleeding Violet cheers up, from all I’ve heard about the book, the weridness is good and she should have a high self esteem
January 10th, 2010 at 12:43 am
Being a weirdo isn’t a bad thing because even though they’re odd, they’re different. That’s what makes them so special! Everybody’s interested in a weirdo =)
Happy release day!!!!!!!!!! I already have BV, but I’m hoping for a signed copy =))))))) BV seems like a weird book (in a very very very good way =))
January 10th, 2010 at 8:54 am
Ooooh! Well, my best argument that being a weirdo can be a good thing is that I am a weirdo. And I like myself that way… and it would seem that the people in my life also like me that way
So it works out just fine.

Happy Birthday Bleeding Violet!!
ok, being a weirdo is NOT a bad thing. I think everyone is really a weirdo inside, because it would be boring if we were all the same! People who channel their inner weirdo are the most interesting cuz they’re not afraid to show their unique-ness! Being weird is living for today, not living for what everyone else wants you to be. Weirdness=cool-dizzy-ness (yes, I say that on a regular basis) I just wish I had the ability to sound weird in a bog comment…….
And props to Kay’s comment….omg I couldn’t stop laughing!!!!
January 10th, 2010 at 2:01 pm
Personally I think it is way cooler to be weird than it is to ne “normal”!! That’s why I always say: “Why be normal? Normal is boring!!”

Why is being a weirdo a good thing? Well, we get to wear insane amounts of purple and sparkly things and TOTALLY pull it off. We can randomly break out in song and our friends will assure staring passing strangers that, no, we are not having an epilleptic fit. And five words: Hokey Pokey over age 5. So. Much. Win.
January 10th, 2010 at 6:09 pm
It’s already been said, but being weird, beind different, makes the
world a better place. I’m sure Eistein, Mozart, St Francis of Assissi, to name just a few were considered weird by other people.
Congrats on your book bday. How thrilling!
January 10th, 2010 at 7:18 pm
Weirdos make normal people feel good about themselves. Just one of the many services we offer….
January 10th, 2010 at 7:29 pm
I think being a weirdo isnt such a bad thing because look around you.
Is there anyone you see walking around you ANYWHERE that isnt a bit strange?
Heck if normal did have a true definition the whole world agreed with then it would be quite boring.
In my opinion we wouldnt have amazing books if it werent for everyone being a bit strange, wacky, and weird.
We wouldnt have FASHION!
We wouldnt have MUSIC!
We wouldnt have ANYTHING!
No computers, no phones, no television, NOTHING!
Wed be walking around naked.
Bored.
If it werent for the whole world being a bit strange, weird, and wacky.

It’s a bit late, but happy book b’day… found this site after reading the book and loving it… gonna recommend it to everyone I know who would read YA paranormal literature.
A lot of people don’t like weird, but you wouldn’t be weird in the first place if you didn’t have something more important to think about.
